Pick locations

A pick location is a location in the warehouse where the item can be picked per storage unit, box and level.

Example 1: There are 100 units of an item on a pallet. If 320 units have been requested, 3 pallets will be taken out of the normal warehouse and 20 pieces will preferably be picked from a pick location.

Example 2: The item with the description 'toy car' is always taken from a full pallet in the warehouse. To allow an item to be taken from the warehouse individually or per box of 10, a pick location is usually added to the item.

A particular type of pick location is a kanban pick location. Kanban is a system used to signal when something is needed. Signaling can be done through a card or electronic registration. The kanban location consists of at least 2 carriers. For example, 2 plastic containers placed one after the other.

For example: Location A is a KANBAN type pick location. Here 2 containers filled with nuts are placed one after the other. Container 1 and container 2 contain 250 nuts. When 1 container is empty, it is a signal that a replenishment is needed. Container 1 is taken from the rack, container 2 is moved down and can be used. Container 1 must be refilled by means of replenishment and placed back in its location. Now container 1 is positioned behind container 2.

In Objective you can configure kanban pick locations besides general pick locations.

A kanban pick location is an LPN based pick location where stock is used without being continuously recorded. Replenishment of the kanban pick location takes place when the operator indicates that the LPN is empty. When an entire LPN is used up, this is recorded in the Supervisor's inventory balance as a separate CONSUMPTION category.

Ideally a kanban pick location has at least 2 LPNs, so that stock can be used from the next LPN.
