Serial Number Verification

Items can be traced by their serial number. A serial number is unique to an item and is recorded in the Configurator. An item can be verified based on a serial number in 2 different ways:

  • SII (Full): the serial number is always known.

The item cannot be in stock without serial number. From the moment the item exists within Objective, by means of a receipt or production, it will at any time be known within Objective (with or after any logistic or production step the item will undergo).

  • SNII (Not In Inventory): the serial number will be identified somewhere during its trajectory (during one or several logistic or production steps).

It can be configured that the serial number is identified at crossdock, picking, production, Kit, VAL, repack, marshaling and/or loading (loading will be set as default registration moment if no other step was configured).

For example: when building a computer we want to know the serial number of the motherboard used at the time that it is actually used to make the computer. Before this time, we do not need any registration.

The generation of serial numbers can happen manually or automatically according to a configured generation and/or validation format per item type. At manual registration of serial numbers, it will be indicated in the operator dialogues when serial numbers have to be identified.

The QC status and inventory attributes of individual serial numbers can be modified, and inspections can be executed on individual serial numbers.

Tracking of an item can be configured as follows:

  • based on the system default
  • only when creating and removing the serial number
  • all the time for any operations relating to the serial number
Serial numbers are not supported for phantom items.
